The Admissions & Enrolment Advisor, reports to the Manager, Admissions & Enrolment The position is responsible for providing support and direction to prospective students, with a focus on Indigenous applicants, to apply and enroll to WBF training programs. This role will facilitate overall enrolment components for assigned WBF programs providing in-person support as needed. This role will provide support to Indigenous students in program and support indigenous focused initiatives at the training centre. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Share WBF information to identified target groups and other appropriate internal and external contacts. Make appropriate referrals using knowledge of all WBF programs and services (Financial Aid, Readiness etc.) 
  • Participate in the delivery of recruitment initiatives in conjunction with the overall WBF Recruitment Team. 
  • Plan, organize and facilitate general and specific program information sessions/workshops online and in person. 
  • Collaborate with the training team to ensure holistic supports to Indigenous students enrolled in WBF programming. 
  • Respond to a wide range of telephone and electronic inquiries; from explorers to make referrals to internal and external contacts. 
  • Screen candidates, with a focus on Indigenous applicants, by reviewing application packages; conduct initial interviews and pre-qualification reviews; conduct in-depth interviews to assess applicant suitability for specific programs.  
  • Provide insight to prospective students to understand the opportunities and potential challenges within the trades and driving/operating careers. 
  • Maintain and share knowledge of applicable funding opportunities, partnership sources, and regulatory requirements.  
  • Provide encouragement and support to candidates throughout the application process. 
  • Input applicant data to a centralized database to ensure accurate records are maintained. 
  • Contribute to process development for Admissions and Enrolment team functions. 

 

Skills & Abilities 

 

  • Knowledge and direct experience in engaging with Indigenous communities and the ability to successfully engage with Indigenous peoples.  
  • Trauma-informed individual with adaptive communication skills. 
  • Developed facilitation skills for public presentations both virtual and in person. 
  • Demonstrated capacity to adapt in a dynamic and changing environment. 
  • Excellent service and public relations skills to connect with people and community organizations, knowledge of resources. 
  • Coaching and interviewing abilities – able to probe with strong open-ended questions. 
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and confident decision-making abilities. 
  • Awareness of cultural, economic, and social barriers facing women around education and employment. 
  • Ability to work independently in an agile work environment including offsite and telework arrangements. 
  • Travel throughout Alberta is up to 20% of time. Ability to travel and a valid "Class 5" driver's license (cannot be a graduated license) with proven driving record (abstract ). 
  • Highly developed organization skills with an attention to details. 
  • Ability to advocate and speak up in support of women’s economic security and rights. 

 

Education & Experience 

  • College Diploma or University Degree in Human Services field/Career Development or equivalent experience. 
  • 2 - 4 years' work experience in social work, academia or non-profit, preferably in a recruitment (community engagement) admissions and enrolment roles.   
  • Lived experience in an Indigenous community or communities would be considered an asset.  
  • Knowledge of trades-related pathways, programming and roles considered an asset. 
  • Alignment with WBF’s values and culture, including a commitment to continuous learning, and creating safe, inclusive workplaces with respect for all employees, applicants, students and stakeholders. 
  • Advanced computer proficiency using MS Office and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools. 
  • Experience with presenting in public and in groups. 
  • Understanding of community structures and barriers to employment and training that women are facing. 
  • Experience in documenting and managing confidential information and personal records. 
  • Experience providing services for Indigenous and culturally diverse women.
