EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

POSITION: Anishinaabemowin Mentor (Full-Time and Part-Time - Flexible Schedules)

LOCATION: Wiikwemkoong Hub Centre

SALARY: Starting Salary $33.34 per hour

START DATE: September 2, 2025

Under the direct supervision of the Hub Centre Program Manager and the general supervision of the Superintendent of Academics/Systems Principal and Education Director.

RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Use Anishinaabemowin throughout the day in the assigned rooms and support ECEs.
  • Co-plan with the assigned ECE Anishinaabe cultural activities. The classroom teacher will connect these cultural activities to Hub Centre programming expectations.
  • Model and mentor Anishinaabemowin with the assigned classroom ECE to indirectly improve educator and staff acquisition of Anishinaabemowin.
  • Connect with community agencies to coordinate learning during the day and advise on the ordering of necessary resources for lessons (i.e. Anishinaabe medicines, cultural activity resources).
  • Support programs, cultural activities, and land-based learning.
  • Invite community Elders and Knowledge Keepers to be a part of the learning.
  • Collaborate with the Wiikwemkoong Anishinaabemowin Kinoomaagewin Department for resources.
  • Participate in all WBE professional development opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Fluency in Anishinaabemowin is necessary.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of Anishinabek Culture, traditions, language, and history.
  • Land-based learning skills are an asset.
  • Indigenous Language Instructor Program qualifications are an asset.
  • Provide a cover letter, resume, and three (3) current work-related references.
  • Provide a current vulnerable/criminal reference check (within the last 90 days) upon offer of employment.
