Primary Purpose:
The Gwenna Moss Centre for Teaching and Learning (GMCTL) provides professional development opportunities for departments, colleges, instructors and graduate students in teaching and professional skills, offers curriculum development and instructional design support for academic programs and courses, works to create an environment that enables good teaching and learning practices, and supports cross institutional initiatives in Indigenization and internationalization. This position provides strategic support to advance environmental education at USask through development and oversight of programming and support for advancing the University of Saskatchewan Sustainability Strategy, particularly related to advancing integration of sustainability in the curriculum.
Nature of Work:
Reporting to the Lead, Curriculum and working in collaboration with academic leaders and educators across the University of Saskatchewan, the incumbent will work to identify needs, build relationships and provide curriculum development support across the institution to enable the design and development of innovative and effective academic programs, curricula, and courses in alignment with the education strand of the USask Sustainability Strategy.
This position requires a high level of initiative, interpersonal and facilitation skills with knowledge of the higher education teaching and learning literature, good teaching practice in higher education and national and international practices in educational and curriculum development. The successful candidate must collaborate with people in varying academic and administrative roles and work in partnership with other service units across the institution. The position requires a commitment to an exceptional standard of service and continuous improvement.
Accountabilities:
- Works with academic leaders and faculty in colleges and departments on projects that support innovative curricular and program design and development
- Coaches academic leaders and educators in preparing for, planning, and implementing curriculum development processes
- Facilitates curriculum development work, in partnership with academic leaders, involving faculty and other relevant parties
- Collaborates effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders on teaching and learning initiatives, including consultations, committee participation, and partnership development
- Research, plans, and designs innovative professional and educational development services and programs, integrating Canadian and international best practices and scholarship
- Develops and delivers formal and informal faculty professional development programs and courses, applying expertise in program and course design processes, active instructional approaches, and assessment and evaluation methods
- Conducts ongoing program and project assessments to evaluate achievement of stated goals and inform continuous improvement
- Recruits, supervises, and mentors graduate service fellows, sessional instructors, and other contributing personnel for program and course delivery
- Engages in continuous professional development and reflection to adapt to emerging needs and maintain expertise
- Contributes to the day-to-day operations of the GMCTL and undertakes other duties as assigned to support unit objectives
Education: Graduate degree required or equivalent education and experience. PhD would be an asset.
Experience: 1-3 years of experience with supporting professional learning or faculty development in higher education or K-12 is required. Demonstrated understanding of teaching and learning is essential. Experience with, or education about, sustainability is an asset.
