Our Purpose

Mokwateh is a bridge-building consultancy, proudly committed to finding common ground and creating common good.

Founded in 2020 by prominent Indigenous business leader JP Gladu, Mokwateh has grown into a trusted consultancy with people, projects, and partners spanning coast to coast. Clients tell us that there is no one quite like Mokwateh and they wish they’d found us sooner. We take that as the highest compliment and humbly agree - Mokwateh brings an indefinable mix of network, knowledge, and the care factor. We call it business development with heart.

In fact, leadership and collaboration are quite literally in the firm’s DNA. Mokwateh is the Aanishinaabe word for Bear Heart, pronounced mow-kwah-tay (or moh-kwah-tay). This name was given to our founder, JP Gladu, in ceremony with highly respected Elder Fred Kelly. It symbolizes courage, strength and love. This teaching infuses our approach at Mokwateh, where we bring past, present and future wisdom to the table to deliver business development with heart.

When you build a bridge toward common ground, you create common good.

That’s where Mokwateh comes in.

Mokwateh is an Indigenous-owned company, with a team of carefully selected advisors and Consultants. Our wide network of authentic relationships brings momentum to every project. We are seeking thoughtful, committed professionals who share these values and who want to be part of transformational change across Turtle Island. Many of our roles require travel, flexibility, and comfort working across multiple time zones and cultural contexts.

We are currently seeking an Indigenous Engagement Consultant to join our ever-growing and dynamic team. We actively encourage applications from Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, Métis) candidates for this role. This role can be done remotely, with some travel required.

Summary

We are seeking a skilled and culturally grounded Indigenous Engagement Consultant to join our growing team. This individual will support the design and delivery of engagement processes with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities across diverse sectors, including agriculture and food systems, infrastructure, governance, natural resources, and organizational development.

The ideal candidate is relationship-focused, humble, adaptable, and grounded in Indigenous knowledge systems and protocols. They will work closely with clients and communities to co-create engagement strategies that are inclusive, respectful, and impactful.

We are a friendly and fast-paced team with a culture of support and mutual assistance – more about outcomes than egos, and team collaboration rather than competition. We are looking for candidates who will readily jump in to help a colleague, who see a steep learning curve as an opportunity, and who ask for help when they need it.

We work hard to sustain employees’ work-life harmony. As part of this, we are closed on non-statutory holidays throughout the year, and we provide two weeks off at the end of December to prioritize quality time with loved ones. We encourage professional development through conference attendance and training, and depending on location, you may have access to a private coworking club.
