Indigenous Legal, Compliance, Regulatory (LCR) Summer Student Program
Interac Corp. and Stikeman Elliott LLP are committed to developing engaged and skilled legal professionals, which includes providing a unique experience for 1-2 talented undergraduate students to participate in a paid Indigenous undergraduate legal internship program. The program will provide opportunities to gain valuable experience in the field of law in both private practice and in-house environments.
The program will take place at Interac Corp. and Stikeman Elliott’s Toronto offices and will begin in May and end in August. It is divided into 2 parts:
Part 1 (May-June): Private practice rotation with Stikeman Elliott; and
Part 2 (July-August): In-house rotation with Interac.
Over the course of the summer, Interac and Stikeman Elliott will provide learning opportunities and social events for the student/s. The student/s will work with great people, including talented lawyers, summer and articling students, and various business groups. The rotation at Stikeman Elliott will be primarily focused on work in our Administrative Services Department, providing the student/s with a strong foundation in the administrative aspects of a business law practice.
Each student will be assigned a mentor from Interac and Stikeman Elliott who will provide guidance and mentorship. That experience will include exposure to: legal research and writing; building and working in teams; law firm operations; professional development sessions; and invitations to a collection of social events that take place throughout the summer. Students will also interact with Stikeman Elliott’s broader summer student team, including students who have completed one to two years of law school. And students will also be part of Interac’s Summer Internship cohort and will have opportunities to enjoy a variety of activities with other Interac students.
Our aim is to facilitate your exposure to the legal and professional services environments, help the student/s learn about the legal profession, and provide networking opportunities. Along the way, you will have the benefit of great mentorship, practical training and development, and meaningful feedback.
