Job Summary:
We are seeking an Indigenous Relations Coordinator to join H2Safety and play a vital role in supporting our Indigenous Emergency Management Program. In this position, you will engage directly with Indigenous communities, fostering strong relationships, building trust, and ensuring clear communication about emergency preparedness initiatives. You will manage and maintain accurate data, prepare outreach materials, and collaborate closely with internal teams to support program delivery and compliance. This role involves both fieldwork and office-based tasks, including travel to project areas, conducting consultations, facilitating engagement, and contributing to emergency response exercises. The Indigenous Relations Coordinator is essential in bridging H2Safety’s emergency management efforts with the needs, priorities, and cultural context of Indigenous communities.
The Role:
Indigenous Emergency Management Program Support
- Assist in the planning, development, and execution of Indigenous consultation programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and client expectations.
- Travel to project areas, utilizing company vehicles, to conduct consultations
Indigenous Emergency Management Engagement
- Proactively engage with First Nations to setup meetings
- Serve as a key point of contact for First Nations, fostering trust and relationships
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment and accuracy of emergency response information provided to stakeholders.
- Gather feedback and insights from First Nations to inform and improve emergency response strategies and initiatives.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the organization's emergency response plans and effectively communicate them to diverse audiences.
- Contribute to fostering a sense of preparedness and resilience within the community through proactive engagement efforts.
Data Management
- Thorough data tracking for all Meetings/Conversations/Commitments.
- Communicate concerns to Director
- Collect and document pertinent information gathered during engagement for future activities to attend, sponsorships, and Relationship potential.
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement of data management systems and processes to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of engagement.
Cross-Team Collaboration
- Collaborate with various teams including ERP Services, Geographic Information System (GIS), External Training, Training and Administration to ensure smooth transition from relationship to work.
- Assist the External Training team with emergency response exercises as needed.
- Coordinate travel arrangements with the Administration team.
Material Preparation
- Keep all marketing materials up to date with any changes needed.
Research and Verification
- Conduct research on current client’s assets to utilize for funding for Nations.
Vehicle Maintenance
- Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of company vehicles while in the field to ensure safe and efficient operations when using.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
Education, Experience and Credentials
- Bachelors or previous experience
- Hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license, have 3 years of reportable driving history in Canada, and have maintained a driver’s abstract with no or minimal demerit points or other traffic violations
- 5 years Previous experience in Indigenous Relations.
- University degree or college diploma in emergency management relating to stakeholder engagement is preferred
- Standard First Aid is an asset.
- H2S Alive is an asset.
- Incident Command System (ICS) – 100 level / 200 level is an asset.
- Common Safety Orientation (CSO) is an asset.
- Energy Sector Driver Improvement / Mentally Active Driving Program is an asset.
- Indigenous Awareness Training is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:
- Maintain flexibility to travel long distances by vehicle to project areas, both remote and populated, for extended periods of time, including some weekend work, when required (50% of the work for this position will be completed in the field)
- Ability to work up to 12-hour days when in the field
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Outlook, Excel)
- High level of independence, initiative, and self-motivation
- High attention to detail; data entry accuracy
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Personable and skilled at establishing rapport and building relationships
- Strong communication and conflict management skills; able to adapt to various communication styles
- Understanding of the Emergency Response Planning industry and the services offered by the company
- Extensive Indigenous Relations background and understanding in regard to cultural awareness, current events and history
