Job Summary:

The Maintenance Supervisor conducts regular inspections of the College facilities and is responsible for managing all aspects of building maintenance and repair, including grounds and parking lots. This position is responsible for the work performed by the Facilities Maintenance Coordinator who manages the activities of Facilities Maintenance Worker and the Facilities Worker (grounds). Position performs other related duties and/or projects, as assigned.


Job Description:

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Performs regular inspections and initiates maintenance and repair work of the College facilities:

  • Conducts regular inspections of the College facilities and grounds;

  • Receives requests and/or initiates work orders relating to maintenance and repair work;

  • Responsible for pest control program at the College;

  • Ensures that parking lots and grounds are maintained including leaf pickup and snow removal;

  • Performs regular roof and anchor inspections;

  • Coordinates asbestos abatement as required;

  • Organizes maintenance and repair projects that may occur at the College;

  • Oversees capital maintenance and repair projects as assigned;

  • Provides information to the Associate for budget preparation upon request;

  • Allocates project budgets based on approved funding, monitoring invoices and ensuring work stays within approved budget;

  • Prepares insurance forms and WCB notices for project work as required;

  • May perform emergency repairs that include, but not limited to, door repairs, window repairs, carpentry, etc.

2. Hires, directs, and reviews work performed by contractors performing building maintenance and repair:

  • Attains competitive prices for Maintenance and Repair (“M&R”) work and issues requisitions for purchase orders;

  • Oversees and reviews the work performed by contractors performing maintenance & repair work;

  • Communicates with College groups on project status and makes necessary arrangement for relocating if required;

  • Reviews and oversees the Facilities maintenance & repair budget;

  • Authorizes and monitors the “FACCON” expenditures;

  • Oversees and assigns daily work to the Facilities Maintenance Coordinator.

3. Provides oversight to engineering activities and work performed to the physical plant:

  • In consultation with the Manager, Building Operations provides monitoring and oversight of work performed to the physical plant and building operations.  Work includes, but not limited to, HVAC, DDC controls, electrical, lighting, and plumbing.

  • Receives, investigates, and resolves complaints or requests related to building operations.

4. Performs other related duties or projects, as assigned:

  • May take on added duties in the absence of the Construction Supervisor.

Qualifications Required:

Education & Experience

  • Two (2) year diploma in engineering, trades or building management, plus a one-year certificate in project management. 

  • Trade qualification in a related field an asset.

  • A minimum of six (6) years of related experience in building construction and project management.  

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Experience working with and supervising multiple trades on multiple projects at the same time.

Skills & Abilities

  • Proven ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, relating effectively to faculty and staff of various backgrounds, both internal and external.

  • Ability to multitask.

  • Knowledge of the policies, rules and regulations governing the operational aspects of the College and knowledge of all applicable by-laws, regulations, statutes and building codes related to the maintenance and management of campus buildings.

  • Proficiency with personal computers, word processing and email.

  • Knowledge of Banner as asset

  • Ability to read blueprints and sketches.

  • Ability to develop cost estimates.

  • Ability to use hand and power tools.

  • A valid BC Driver’s license
