Overview
ICM offers a pathway to an undergraduate degree at the University of Manitoba. We are seeking applications for an instructor to co-design and teach a new pre-university course assisting international students to improve their knowledge of Indigenous educational, social and cultural perspectives.
This position will be in-person, based on the University of Manitoba’s Fort Garry campus. There will be a total of 4-hours of teaching time for 13-weeks, with an additional 1.5 hours of set office hour time. Start time and additional hours to co-design will be determined and agreed upon during the selection process.
Essential Skills, Knowledge, & Experience
- Master’s degree, PhD Candidate, PhD in relevant field, or equivalent experience
- Experience assisting newcomers in developing the academic and life skills needed for university success
- Knowledge of Indigenous educational, social and cultural perspectives gained through lived experience and/or academic study
- Experience in program and curriculum development specific to Indigenous education
- Demonstrated experience facilitating in a classroom setting
- Strong intercultural competence, particularly with local Indigenous communities
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues to achieve shared outcomes
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, in the English language
- Empathetic approach to the instructional needs and concerns of students
- Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement
- Ability to work with current learning tools and technologies for delivery of instruction
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Degree or certificate in the professional practice of teaching and learning
- Experience in teaching students with diverse social identities and backgrounds
- Experience as a student or instructor in post-secondary institutions outside of Canada
