Job Summary:

Alberta Health Services (AHS) invites applications for the role of Virtual Health Lead, Indigenous Wellness Core (IWC).

 

Up to 0.5 FTE  is  available and will report to the Senior Medical Director, IWC or delegate. 0.5 FTE may be divided amongst more than one person depending on interest.

 

The Indigenous Health Commitments\: Roadmap to Wellness aligns the principles of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the calls to action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada to provide the framework for this position. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting, facilitating and advocating for implementation and integration of virtual health services that will address the needs of Indigenous Peoples. This will involve working collaboratively with AHS operational and medical leads in the IWC and Virtual Health, as well as non-AHS practitioners to provide quality, innovative, and efficient health services to Indigenous individuals and communities, including\: 

  • Engaging and collaborating with Indigenous communities; 
  • Promoting a culture of safety;
  • Advocating for high quality care; and
  • Representing the IWC to ensure that Indigenous voices are heard.

The position has an expected start date of April 2, 2023, and an expected term of 3 years.

 

Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

  • Providing medical leadership to the Alberta Indigenous Virtual Care Clinic (AIVCC);
  • Supporting AIVCC clinicians to provide patient-centered and evidence-informed care using existing and new innovative technologies;
  • Identifying and supporting new or modified approaches, practices, and processes to integrate virtual health into clinical practice;
  • Contributing to the development of virtual health services in AHS, in Indigenous communities and in Primary Care Networks / private clinics with respect to services for Indigenous people;
  • Establishing effective modes of communication and engagement with physicians and program partners; and,
  • Fulfilling clinical duties relevant to Indigenous health.

Qualifications\:

The ideal candidate will have worked in Indigenous communities or with Indigenous people. They will be an inclusive and visionary leader with the ability to build relationships, trust, and collaboration between AHS and Indigenous communities and have demonstrated abilities in communication, conflict resolution, negotiation, and a passion for quality and patient safety. The ideal candidate will possess superior interpersonal skills, an ability to mentor other Indigenous and non-Indigenous physicians, and be able to relate and engage with Indigenous leadership and Indigenous organizations.

 

Candidates must be certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) and hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff.

 

Remuneration:

Within the CMLb level of the AHS Medical Leadership Compensation Grid and in accordance with CMO Policy 01-01.
