Mamaweswen, The North Shore Tribal Council invites applications for the ISETP/Naadmaadwiiuk Unit Employment & Training Services Officer.  The Employment & Training Services Officer will report directly to the Indigenous Skills and Employment Training Unit Manager (ISETP) of the North Shore Tribal Council.



Purpose

The Employment & Training Services Officer will develop employment and training opportunities for ISETP North Shore Tribal Council First Nations by engaging employers/institutions to promote partnerships for employment and training opportunities for First Nation members.


The Employment & Training Services Officer will also be responsible for providing employment assistance services to Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, Serpent River First Nation, Mississauga First Nation community members with employment and training services as needed. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and negotiate applications for funding under ISETP/Naadmaadwiiuk programs which are consistent with ISETP strategy.
  • Promotes and develops employment and on-the-job training opportunities for First Nations applicants.
  •  Provides NSTC community members seeking potential employer/institution partners to create employment opportunities for program participants.
  • Liaises with industry stakeholders and employers to create employment opportunities for program participants.
  • Sources all placement opportunities and track employment trends in local and regional labour markets.
  • Develop and assist with proposals as required.
  • Provide employment and training services under Naadmaadwiiuk to members of Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, Serpent River First Nation, Mississauga First Nation
    • Reviews client information, interviews clients and determine skills and abilities.
    • Provide employment counselling and referral services to First Nation members.
    • Works with clients to develop resumes and cover letters to send to prospective employers.
    • Works in conjunction with community staff on projects that may be eligible for employment and training subsidies.
    • Database entry of client data on ARMS for quarterly uploads to Service Canada.
  • Negotiate training subsidies/apprenticeships and work placements with employers and monitors placements.


Qualifications

The Employment and Training Officer shall possess:

  • Post Secondary education in social services, business administration or related discipline and/or minimum two years’ work experience in employment counseling services.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams) and data entry software.
  • Knowledge of NSTC - ISETP employment and training programs and services.                                                                 
  • Understanding of First Nations Community Development initiatives and priorities.                                                                              
  • Facilitation skills for workshop delivery and design.                                                                                                            
  • Experience working with First Nation communities.
  • Must pass ESDC/Service Canada Security Clearance
  • Travel is Required – Applicant must possess Class G Ontario Driver’s License and access to own vehicle
